Week 8: Assignment

This week, we are talking and reading about Volunteering and Being Compassionate to Others in Need.

For Assignment #7, YOU HAVE A CHOICE! Choose one of the essays below to read and listen to, and then complete the appropriate handout from your teacher.



Option A: "In Giving I Connect With Others." This is a short essay by the famous author Isabelle Allende. In the essay, she talks about the lessons she learned from her daughter about "service to others."

NOTE: The essay has a lot of difficult vocabulary, but just try to understand the reading IN GENERAL. Be sure to ask your teacher if you have questions.




Option B: "Peace Begins With One Person." This is a short essay by an "ordinary person." Ivory Harlow is a waitress who is kind and compassionate to others because she believes her kind treatment of others makes a difference in the world.
